State Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) recently proposed a bill (SB 237) that would ban discrimination in the workplace based on an employee’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Under current law (both federal and state), there are no legal protections for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender employees in Texas, and they can be fired or otherwise discriminated against in the workplace based on their sexual orientation. It appears as though the bill does not have enough votes to get out of the Senate committee.
